When we travel, we always like to review restaurants where the people are friendly, the food is very good and the atmosphere is comfortable and warm. La Scogliere restaurant (La Scogliare 2 Sorelle means "The Reef 2 Sisters") is such a place and we were lucky to be staying in an apartment nearby so we could visit often.
On our first visit, we wanted something light, so we ordered Spaghetti Pomodoro and a spicy salami pizza. I was knocked out by the different taste of the spaghetti pomodoro. So fresh and light, yet satisfying. I don't think I've ever tasted spaghetti prepared any better. And the pizza was fresh out of the wood-fired pizza oven. It was so light and delicious - again different than the pizza I am used to. I didn't feel weighed down after eating it. And the price was a very reasonable 7 euros. We had two bottles of sparkling water (1 liter each), one large mixed salad and the check was only 25 euros for two people. We felt as though we had truly eaten in a family-style restaurant away from the high-priced tourist places near the Duomo. The service we received was very friendly and welcoming.
On our second visit for dinner, there was a birthday party going on and the staff was dancing with the guests. It was fun to watch and listen to the music. The restaurant caters to the local people and doesn't depend on tourists who come and go for their clientele, so that's why La Scogliera was highly recommended to us. We second the motion!
Even though it was not on the menu, the father cooked Chicken Piccata for me and it was very good. And my wife had a seafood platter of mussels, shrimp and prawns with spaghetti pomodoro, which she loved. We also enjoyed a half carafe of sparkling white wine. A fabulous meal. And Tiramisu and lemon gelato for dessert. Wow!
How's this for a pizza oven?
My thanks to everyone at La Scogliera for being patient and answering all our questions on how to get to the train station and other places in the city. You were so helpful. We'll plan to stop in one more time before we go. Grazie!
You can visit La Scogliera easily from the Duomo by taking the #1 Tram to the Bartolini Monte Ceneri stop. Walk across the street (under the raised roadway) and it's the first restaurant you come to on the right. Or give your taxi driver the address and get there a little quicker!
