The largest and most outstanding city in the Netherlands, Amsterdam, is a great place if you're looking for a captivating break. With more canals that Venice and more bridges than Paris, Amsterdam is an extremely beautiful city and has a lot to offer its visitors. Here are my favourites:

The Palace columns on the outside of the building are sinking into the sand as the piazza is raised to keep out the water!

This is an amazing piece of Venetian history. Cross over the bridge to the prison and you'll see why it's aptly named.

Piazza San Marco is the square outside of the Doges Palace and St. Mark's Cathedral. This square has seen a lot of history and is grand and a very romantic at night. A great place to watch people, listen to music and enjoy a drink and maybe a meal.
