The Cathedral (as it is now) was built in 1964. Started in the Gold Rush period, the church suffered through the 1906 earthquake.

Cologne Cathedral is one of Germany's most famous architectural monuments and Cologne's most recognizable landmark. The cathedral which is also famous for housing the Shrine of the Three Kings was not completed until 1880 though the foundation stone was laid already in 1248.

The Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral is much more than just the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico. The oldest and the largest cathedral in Latin America that was built shortly after the conquest of the Aztec Empire is one of the most recognizable landmarks of both Mexico and Mexico City.

Walking up from Il Campo in Siena, we arrived at the magnificent Cathedral. We learned that the marble pavement work lasted 6 centuries!

We got off the trolley and walked to the end of the street and there it was. The sun was bright and the facade of the church was stunning!
