The Las Vegas Monorail System
cwo3ward @ 09/ 23/ 2009

The monorail system in Las Vegas started out by running between the MGM Grand Hotel and Bally's.  Expansion and testing over the years has resulted in a system that operates without a public subsidy.  The new stations added have made it much easier to travel up and down the strip.

The current stations are:

Sahara Hotel

Hilton Hotel

Las Vegas Convention Center

Harrah's / Imperial Palace

Flamingo / Caesar's Palace

Bally's / Paris Las Vegas

MGM Grand Hotel

Proposed new stations from MGM Grand to McCarran International Airport:

Harmon Ave. and Koval Lane

HardRock Hotel and Casino

Thomas and Mack Center (UNLV)

McCarran International Airport (Terminal 3)

McCarran International Airport (Terminal 1)

The cost of the various tickets (purchased at ticket machines in the stations) as of this writing were: 1 ride - $5 1 day unlimited - $14 3 day unlimited - $30 Overall, the monorail made it easy to move up and down the strip.  Before you go on your next trip, check to see if the monorail goes to the hotel where you will be staying.  I recommend this as a way to get around unles you are a group of three or four.  In that case, a taxi might work out to be the cheaper alternative.  Here's a handy link.

What were the WOW moments you experienced?
The Monorail system was much nicer and more efficient than I thought it would be. The ticket prices seem rather high, unless you buy the unlimited pass for one or three days.
