The Eiffel Tower
After a mix-up with our Eurostar train tickets (my husband read the ticket wrong and we missed the train to Paris), we succeeded in making our way to Paris for the day from London. The Eurostar was fast and very pleasant (because we had to buy 1st Class tickets to replace the economy tickets we originally bought. it was that or forfeit the return tickets, too. They would not give us a refund for the Paris - London return trip that night). The first thing we did was to jump in a taxi and go to see the Eiffel Tower. The ride up in the elevator was fun and we had a good time walking around and enjoying the view.
The Eiffel Tower is located in the Champ de Mars in Paris and is one of the most well known structures of the world. This tower is the tallest building in France and was built as the entrance for the 1889 Worlds Fair. This monument is the most visited one in the entire world with millions of people coming to view it each year. It was named for its builder Gustave Eiffel.
The tower has three levels that are available for guests to visit. The first level can be reached by steps but it is a long walk up, over three hundred steps to be precise. The second and third levels can be reached by elevator. Tickets must be purchased to reach the second and third levels, and the third can only be reached by elevator. There are restaurants on the first and second levels of the tower for guests to visit. This makes the perfect setting for a romantic date. On the first level the restaurant Altitude 95 exists three hundred feet above sea level and on the second floor the more expensive Jules Verne resides with a private lift. The famous chef Alain Ducasse was brought in to run the Jules Verne to ensure that the food and experience is the best possible.
The tower has become an icon in the city of Paris and brings tourists from all over the world. Many films are set at the Eiffel Tower with scenes even being shot on the tower itself. This adds to the fascination of the monument and draws in even more guests. Since this is the most visited monument in the world it is safe to say that Paris receives a lot of income for the city because of the tourists and tower. The Eiffel Tower has been the inspiration for over thirty towers built around the world.
The Eiffel Tower is such a powerful popular structure that a woman actually married it in 2007. Erika Eiffel is the wife of the Eiffel Tower and her relationship with the tower has been a subject of global media ever since. Obviously the Eiffel Tower is more than just a monument, it is art, and symbolizes strength and stability for many people around the world.
In spite of the mix-up with our tickets, we had a nice visit to the Eiffel Tower and hope to return again sometime. I'd especially like to visit on a warmer day when we have more time to stroll the grounds.
